TechNote>Troubleshooting Acrobat-Reader Updater error codes (Windows 8.2.2 and 9.3.2 and later)
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/852/cpsid_85258.html

Troubleshooting Acrobat-Reader Updater error codes (Windows 8.2.2 and 9.3.2 and later)
User interface errors are designed to provide basic information about an update’s status and therefore contain an error code and one or two sentences of text. More detail can be found in the logs; however, since those technical details are designed to help IT administrators and support troubleshoot any issues, that information is not displayed to end users in the dialogs.

The one exception is MSI errors. Like most Windows applications, including Adobe software, installing updates and patches involves leveraging Microsoft's MSI installer technology. These errors appear in the log, but also appear in the error dialog beginning with the 9.3.3 and 8.2.3 quarterly release.

For non-MSI erors, see the Updater guide. For MSI errors, refer to this document or search online at sites like http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa372835(VS.85).aspx. When known, MSI problems related to the Acrobat family of products will be listed here. Users are only likely to encounter a very small subset of the possible MSI errors.

Troublesho
oting workflow
When you can't update or patch the product via the Updater, do the following:

1.For Acrobat, go to step 2. For Reader, uninstall and reinstall the base version such as 9.3 (the second number after the first dot should be have been incremented by 1).
2.Choose Help > Check for Updates.
3.If an error occurs, look at the error code and error string to identify the source of the error. In some cases Updater and MSI errors have the same error code; however, the error message is always unique. For a list of MSI errors, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa372835(VS.85).aspx.
4.Refer to the documentation below or in the Updater guide.
5.Open the log for additional information: For Vista and Windows 7, go to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp\AdobeARM.log. For XP, go to %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp\AdobeARM.log
Tip: For a small application like Reader, it is often easier to uninstall and reinstall. If reinstallation results in the same error, troubleshooting may be warranted.

Errors
Note that while some of the referenced notes below use Creative Suite as examples, Windows applications that leverage the MSI technology will have similar troubleshooting steps.

1309: Error attempting to open the source file C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashPlayerTrust\AcrobatConnect.cfg. System error code: 2
See http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403915.html.

1311: Could not locate source file cabinet: [2].
See http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405578.html. The source cabinet file cannot be found.

1321: The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashPlayerTrust\AcrobatConnect.cfg.
See http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403915.html.

1327:Invalid Drive
See http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404946.html.

Alternative solution: This error may appear when a drive is mapped for the user and the installer is running in a system context. Change the access permissions on the network folder to “write” for everyone to the shared folder or drive.

1328: Error applying patch to file [2]. It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by this patch. For more information contact your patch vendor. System Error: [3]
Fix: Some file has changed or is missing. Uninstall and reinstall the product.

1335: The cabinet file '[2]' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.
The source cabinet is corrupt. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa372835(VS.85).aspx.

1401, 1402, 1404, 1406: Could not [ perform some action] for [key or value].
You probably don't have permission based on your login to modify certain areas of the registry. You may need administrator privileges. Possible quick fixes include:

•Repair the current installation of the application through Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
•Get write access to the registry key at HKLM\Software\Adobe\Acrobat. Reader\ HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\.
•Update the application again.

1500. Another installation is already in progress. Complete that install before proceeding with this installation.
See http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403945.html.

1618: Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install.
Another install is in progress and MSI is busy. Quit one of the installs or wait for the first one to finish.

1704. An installation of [product name] is currently suspended.
See http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403945.html.

1706 No valid source could be found for product [2].
One or more of the installer files that was downloaded by the Updater cannot be found. For example, AdbeRdr930_en_US.msi may have been renamed or removed from the desktop or from the following folder(s): C:\Program Files\Adobe\\Setup Files\. Product codes vary by product name and version but look something like this: AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-A82000000003.

You may be able to browse for the resource by going to the Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and trying to repair the application. When the dialog appears indicating that the resource is unavailable, browse the needed file. You can also get the MSI either from your Installation CD or from www.adobe.com/downloads (Reader only) .
